Battle Thunder
Plans were initially set for the second season of "Mystic Knights," as evident with the new logo for "Mystic Knights Battle Thunder" and a full, extensive toyline well into development.
However, hardly anyone could anticipate just how big anime was going to get in the United States, particularly with the introduction of Pokemon and its subsequent Power Rangers-level global success.
As such, Fox Kids made some last minute adjustments to their 1999 Fall lineup. VERY last-minute. This resulted in the immediate cancellation of both "Mystic Knights of Tir Na Nog" & "Young Hercules", with the budget for those shows being re-directed into their new betting horse- Digimon: Digital Monsters to compete against Pokemon. Digimon was so last-minute that it wasn't even in the affliate meeting, and was barely added in to the "Fall Preview" special hosted by Frankie Muniz of "Malcolm in the Middle".
Most of the remaining budget went into the Fall episodes of "Power Rangers Lost Galaxy" given the massive ratings it received during the Spring that year. The Fall line of Power Rangers received an even bigger toyline, promotions, and upscaled special effects as seen in the episode "The Rescue Mission".
Since then, the rights to "Mystic Knights" have been in a legal ball of tangled Christmas lights. Haim Saban sold his entire library to Disney in 2001, and subsequently bought it back for pennies on the dollar in 2010. Hasbro then purchased the library in 2020. In that time, SHOUT! Factory has been able to produce DVD sets of nearly every live-action Saban show with the major exception of Mystic Knights.
Is there a company out there who can untangle the rights for these Knights? Or will Draganta need to serve out his 100 lifetimes of peace first?
