Adam is entrusted with a treasured paper lantern—an heirloom said to carry a special power and a link to his heritage. When he and Billy visit the wise gardener Ko to learn more about its mysterious inscription, they discover the lantern may be far more important than it appears. Word of its power reaches Lord Zedd, who sends Rito, Baboo, and Squatt to steal it, but their bungling raid on Ko’s garden results in the creation of the monstrous Lanterra instead. Believing the monster was formed from his family’s lantern, Adam hesitates to fight, torn between his duty as a Ranger and his responsibility to his family. To save Angel Grove, he must accept a hard truth: the real power he’s been given isn’t in the lantern itself, but in the strength and courage he carries within.
